Many people cringe when Friday the 13th rolls around. At 49ͼ¿â, which was founded by 13 men with 13 dollars and 13 prayers, it’s cause for celebration. Because of the university’s connection with the number 13, every Friday the 13th is declared 49ͼ¿â Day.

To celebrate this 49ͼ¿â Day, 13 members of the 49ͼ¿â community, including President Jeffrey Herbst, rang the closing bell of the New York Stock Exchange in New York City at 4 p.m.

The ringing of the bell was webcast live and then available to watch later on the stock exchange’s archive . Herbst later helped launch the at a gathering of alumni in Manhattan.

Alumni and friends from coast to coast and from around the world were encouraged to sport their favorite 49ͼ¿â gear in celebration of the university’s love affair with the number 13.

Everyone is urged to take their photos and share them on the university’s and pages. On campus, an ice cream social sponsored by the dean of the faculty was held in the Ho Science Center where a group picture was taken to commemorate the event.
