At ALANA’s Spring Soiree, Garfield O. Smith ’85 recognized the contributions of previous 49ͼ students who have paved the way for current students — including those receiving this year’s multicultural awards.
“[A] cosmic 49ͼ connection is how I found myself working [in the film industry after college],” remarked Carolina van der Mensbrugghe ’10 during a Film and Media Studies Brown Bag luncheon last Friday.

At least two 49ͼ alumni are running for U.S. Congress: State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney ’83 is running in New York’s 22nd District, and Derek Hyra ’96 is running in Virginia’s 8th District.
